Prviate/Primary Physical Therapy Assessments
At your first visit, your Physical Therapist will perform a detailed assessment of the area/areas affected by the injury or condition
Information obtained by the assessment will allow your therapist to make a diagnosis and determine a problem list, goals and treatment plan.
Primary assessments are usually the initial assessment, or first assessment done after an injury or onset of a condition. The purpose of the assessment is to progress treatment to restore normal movement and function within 6-12 weeks.
Funding may be private or through insurance sponosors.
Assessment time is typically 1 hour.
Multidisciplinary
The Humboldt Therapy Centre offers a team assessment provided by a Physician, Chiropractor, Physical Therapist with a Psychosocial Social Screening evaluation.
The clients assessed are often on long term disability due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, workplace or due to a disease process and are struggling to recover 8-12 weeks post surgery.
Goals of the multidisciplinary assessement are to provide a team approach to managing long term disability situations with recommendations that provide a time lined comprehensive treatment plan.
Average assessment times are between 4-6 hours.
Functional Abilities Evaluations
A functional abilities evaluation is an evaluation performed by a Physical Therapist at the Humboldt Therapy Centre, to compare a client's present functional capabilities to those required at their work or home.
The purpose of this test is to determine if the client has any functional restrictions compared to their work or home needs.
This test helps to plan for a safe graduated return to work and/or to determine if exercise or functional conditioning is necessary for return to full function.
This test is typically done when a person is recovering from an injury or disability and is done in conjuction with a biomechanical evalutation.
Funding can be private or through an insurance sponsor.
Assessment time is typically 2-4 hours.
Functional Capacity Evaluations
A “Functional Capacity Evaluation” (FCE) is an intensive short-term (usually one day) evaluation that focuses on major physical tolerance abilities related to musculoskeletal strength, endurance, speed, and flexibility.
Humboldt Therapy Centre Functional Capacities are performed by therapists that have been trained through the Roy Matheson Evaluation Certification program. One day testing is recommended to closely parallel a full work-day.
This type of testing utilizes baseline measurements with repeated testing.
The purpose of this testing is usually done to determine what level of function the client is at for future vocational planning.

Centre
The Humboldt Therapy Centre Gym is fully equipped with a wide range of weight lifting and cardio equipment. The gym is open to the public and has convenient hours of operation to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. Personal exercise programs are also available.
